The chalkboard is just what I what I was looking for. It seems that all you can buy in the stores are the dry-erase boards. Not what I was looking for. Went to amazon.com and not only did I find the board I was looking for, but I got it at an AMAZING price. Definitely well worth it. Season the board with chalk first and it will work beautifully!
Not The "Chalkboard" Feel You Expect (2010-07-02) : 2/5
I got this for a friend who gets excited whenever he writes on a chalkboard (he wants to be a teacher, what can I say) expecting it to be cool and smooth as the chalkboards I'm used to in class, but I was deceived. These chalkboards have a plastic, almost bumpy feel to them. The chalkboard is extremely thin (which can be a plus for children, since they are light and not dangerous during earthquakes and such). The chalkboard writes just fine, though, despite the odd not-chalkboard feel, the white chalk shows up bright and clear on the chalkboard. br /br /I was expecting more of an authentic chalkboard feel, but if you're looking for just a black board to use chalk on, this is an okay, lightweight board to purchase. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

We purchased this for our playroom. It writes and erases just fine. The board is slightly warped as another reviewer noted, but it's actually not that noticeable when hung. The board wiggles at the bottom (only top mounts included), so we'll probably secure another way, as well. This board will be a lot of fun in our playroom. Not perfect, but sufficient and reasonably priced for "play" purposes.
Board came badly warped (2009-12-21) : 2/5
I haven't actually tried the board yet. I was very disappointed to find that it arrived very warped. Seems a bit overpriced and I wish I had looked in a local store for either this or another comparable product. Haven't decided if I will ship it back because of the charges.
A good chalkboard (2009-12-16) : 5/5
A good chalkboard for the money. I primed it as a commenter suggested in a previous review (by rubbing the side of chalk all over the board's surface). Afterward the chalk wrote on the board fine, and I pressed normally. Good value.
